The 10 yard container in Phoenix
The 10 yard is the one we send when the job is one room, one garage or one weekend. It is the shortest container we run, so it fits where the bigger boxes cannot — a tight drive in one of the historic districts around downtown, like Roosevelt, Willo, Coronado or Garfield, where the houses sit close together. The trade-off is volume: fill it with cabinets and drywall and it is full fast.
Where the 10 yard earns its keep is heavy material. Concrete, block, brick, tile, dirt, decomposed granite and landscape rock hit the weight allowance long before a bigger box looks full. A pool deck or a patio broken up and loaded level in a 10 is usually the cheaper, safer call. Tell us what is going in and we will say so.
Small remodels, heavy loads and the one-room cleanout
A bathroom tear-out — tile, tub, vanity, a bit of drywall — sits comfortably in a 10 yard. So does a garage that has been collecting boxes since the last move. A whole roof wants a 20, and a concrete or clay tile roof wants a talk about weight first.
Phoenix homeowners also use it for what the City will not take. Bulk trash pickup in Phoenix is by appointment only, four times a year, 10 cubic yards at most — and it refuses bricks, concrete, dirt, rock, asphalt, roofing shingles and tile, and heavy building debris. A 10 yard of busted pavers and old block is exactly the gap it fills.
Heavy material and the weight line
Weight is the limit that matters for this size. One to two tons is the included allowance. A 10 yard filled to the rail with concrete or rock can run past that, so for all-concrete loads, load it level, not heaped, or split it across two hauls. Mixed household junk never gets close. Overage is charged per ton at the disposal rate — the City of Phoenix transfer stations charge $55 a ton — and we tell you the number before you load.
Suitability
Is the 10 yard the right size for you?
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.
Choose the 10 yard for
- Bathroom or small kitchen remodel
- Garage, shed or storage room cleanout
- Broken-up concrete, pavers, block or tile loaded level
- Dirt, gravel, decomposed granite and landscape rock
- Furniture from one or two rooms
Pick a different size for
- A whole-house cleanout — that is a 20 or 30
- A full roof tear-off
- Palm fronds and loose brush from a big yard (bulky — a 20 eats them)
- Tires, car batteries, oil, paint or chemicals — never in the box
Placing a 10 yard container on a Valley property
It needs about 60 feet of straight, level run for the truck and 25 feet of overhead clearance. On your own driveway or lot in Phoenix we found no City permit for the container; in a street, lane or sidewalk, Street Transportation's Right-of-Way Management Office (602-262-6235) issues a TRACS restriction permit and wants two to three business days' notice. Other cities have their own rules — Scottsdale names roll-off dumpsters in its right-of-way permit, Chandler charges $315 for a traffic control permit. Check your HOA too: some limit how long a container can sit in a driveway. Boards go under the rails on request. Each town page covers its own code.

10 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
How much space does a 10 yard dumpster need?
The container is about 14 feet long. The truck needs about 60 feet of straight run to roll it off and 25 feet of overhead clearance — watch for carports, palm fronds and power lines. The driver checks the spot before setting it down.
Can I put concrete in a 10 yard dumpster?
Yes, and it is usually the right box for it. Load it level with the sides, not heaped, so it stays under the weight limit and can be lifted safely. Pool decks and patios are the classic Valley job for it.
How long do I get it for?
The standard rental is 7 days. Call before pickup day if you need longer and we extend it at a daily rate. If you finish early, call and we pick up early.
Is it the cheapest option?
For a small job, yes. A 10 yard typically runs about $350 to $550, depending on the address, what is in it, how long you keep it and the weight. If you think you might overfill it, a 15 or 20 costs less than a second haul — say what the job is and we will size it honestly.
