The 20 yard container in Phoenix
When somebody calls and is not sure, the 20 yard is where we usually end up. It handles the jobs most Valley homes and small job sites produce — a multi-room remodel, an estate or move-out cleanout, a shingle roof, a backyard full of monsoon damage — without being so tall that loading turns into a chore.
It is 22 feet long, which is the thing to check: that is most of a two-car driveway, and the truck needs a straight run to set it down. Where it fits, it fits everything else about the job.
Renovations, roofs, estate cleanouts
A kitchen and bath together, flooring through the house plus the cabinets, a whole house cleared before a sale — these are 20 yard jobs. Roofers use it for shingle tear-offs. Concrete and clay tile roofs are a different animal: tile is far heavier than shingle, so a tile roof gets planned around the weight allowance — often a 10 or split loads — not the volume. Tell us it is a roof, and what kind, and we plan it from the start.
It is also the standard container on smaller job sites during framing and drywall, when the waste is bulky rather than heavy, and for landscaping crews clearing palm fronds, oleanders and storm limbs after a monsoon.
What the 20 yard includes
Delivery, pickup, disposal up to the included three to four tons and a standard 7-day rental, all in one flat price. If you are loading tile, stucco or rock and think you will go over, say so when you book — we would rather plan a second haul than surprise you.
Suitability
Is the 20 yard the right size for you?
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.
Choose the 20 yard for
- Multi-room or whole-house renovation
- Shingle roof tear-offs
- Estate, move-out and rental turnover cleanouts
- Framing and drywall waste on a build
- Monsoon storm cleanup and big yard jobs
Pick a different size for
- All-concrete, all-rock or all-dirt loads (use a 10 loaded level)
- Whole-house demolition — that is a 30 or 40
- Driveways with no 60 ft straight run and no other spot
- Asbestos, paint, propane, tires, car batteries, fridges with the refrigerant still in them
Placing a 20 yard container on a Valley property
It needs about 60 feet of straight, level run for the truck (22 feet of container plus the roll-off) and 25 feet of overhead clearance. On your own driveway or lot in Phoenix we found no City permit for the container; in a street, lane or sidewalk, Street Transportation's Right-of-Way Management Office (602-262-6235) issues a TRACS restriction permit and wants two to three business days' notice. Other cities have their own rules — Scottsdale names roll-off dumpsters in its right-of-way permit, Chandler charges $315 for a traffic control permit. Check your HOA too: some limit how long a container can sit in a driveway. Boards go under the rails on request. Each town page covers its own code.

20 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
How many pickup loads is a 20 yard dumpster?
About six, or roughly 110 to 130 trash bags. Think of it as a whole house of furniture and junk, or a kitchen plus a bathroom plus the flooring.
Can a 20 yard fit in a Phoenix driveway?
Usually. It is about 22 feet long and 7.5 feet wide, so a standard two-car driveway has room, and it needs roughly 60 feet of straight clearance for the truck. We found no City of Phoenix permit for a container on your own driveway — but check your HOA rules if you have one.
What is the weight limit on a 20 yard?
Three to four tons included, depending on the material. Roof tile, stucco, rock and concrete are the loads that test it; household junk and remodel debris do not.
How long is the rental?
7 days as standard, with daily extensions if the job runs on. Call before the pickup date.
Can I get a 20 yard the same day?
Call before noon and in Phoenix and the close-in cities we can often have it on your driveway that afternoon, depending on availability. The far edges of the Valley — Buckeye, Queen Creek, Apache Junction, Cave Creek — are more often next morning.
